About BAE

A community built on belonging.

Black Americans in Europe (BAE) is a membership community for Black Americans living across Europe — and the spouses, partners, and family members building a life alongside them.

Our mission

Why BAE exists

Moving to a new country is one of the most exciting — and isolating — things a person can do. For Black Americans, that move comes with its own specific questions: Where will I find my products? Will my kids see themselves reflected here? Who understands what I left behind, and what I'm navigating now?

BAE exists to answer those questions together. We're creating a trusted, members-only community where Black Americans across Europe can connect, share hard-won knowledge, find friendship, and build the kind of support network that makes a foreign place feel like home.

We're not a brand or a feed to scroll. We're a community — small enough to feel personal, intentional about who we are, and focused on real connection over reach.

Who we center

BAE centers the Black American experience in Europe — while warmly welcoming the spouses, partners, and family members who share the journey.

Our community is rooted in the specific reality of being Black and American on this side of the Atlantic. That focus is what makes the space feel like home. At the same time, many of us are building families across cultures and borders — so partners and loved ones of all backgrounds are welcomed with open arms as part of our extended family.

What we stand for

Community values

Five values shape how we show up for one another.

Belonging

A place where you don't have to explain yourself — where being Black and American abroad is simply understood.

Respect

We meet each other with generosity and good faith, across every background, city, and stage of the journey.

Cultural connection

We carry our culture with us and celebrate it together — food, traditions, language, and the things that feel like home.

Privacy

What's shared in the community stays in the community. We protect each other's stories and personal information.

Support

Practical help and real encouragement, from paperwork and parenting to the hard days that come with living far away.
